The Importance of Early Childhood Literacy in the Youth Services MLIS Curriculum

DESCRIPTION:
Beth Wrenn-Estes is designing the new Early Childhood Literacy (ECL) class to be taught for the first time in Fall 2014. Beth will discuss the importance of understanding early childhood development and literacy skills and how important understanding ECL will be in programming and services in environment in public libraries.

SPEAKER BIO:
Beth Wrenn-Estes is a full-time faculty member at SLIS. She teaches in the youth services track and concentrates her field of expertise to children’s and young adult literature and programming and services. Wrenn-Estes was the Outstanding Lecturer for 2012 and has worked in public schools and public libraries before joining the SLIS faculty.
