SJSU ASIS&T Executive Committee Spotlight on Paizha Stoothoff

What is your role on the Executive Committee?

As of March 2018, I am the new Programming Director of the ASIS&T executive committee. I am responsible for planning and facilitating events, including webinars on topics of interest to iSchool students. This involves recruiting event speakers and coordinating with them in preparation for webinars, as well as assessing event success through attendee feedback and other data.

What is your focus/pathway during your time at the iSchool?

I am on the Academic Librarianship pathway.

What do you enjoy about being on the ASIS&T Board?

I am new to the executive committee, but I have already enjoyed the increased involvement with my peers. As an iSchool student, it is a great way to meet other students and build a sense of camaraderie. I am also looking forward to being a part of planning events from start to finish, such as contributing ideas for webinar topics, reaching out to and communicating with experts in the field, and understanding how events are received. I think the liaison and outreach experience will translate well into librarianship, which is exciting.

What are three fun facts about you?

  1. When I was in high school, I went to an American Sikh boarding school in Punjab, India for a year.
  2. I have attended four California State Universities and graduated from two of them (hopefully to become three!).
  3. I can raise my eyebrows separately which enables me to do an excellent Grinch impression.
