Monday, March 25, 2024, ALASC marked a significant milestone – 30 years of serving as a vibrant student organization at SJSU. To commemorate this special anniversary, ALASC’s Events team members Missy McCollum, Cat Tang, and Connor Dandridge hosted the bi-annual, “Connect Over Coffee.” We were lucky enough to have a distinguished panel of SJSU alumni librarians, including:

  • Jenn Roush, Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Librarian
  • Emily Espanol, Roseman University of Health Sciences, Pharmacy Librarian
  • Allison L. Shaw, Lipscomb University Librarian
  • Kelly Duarte, Chapman University Law School Cataloging and Metadata Assistant, and Beaumont Library District On-Call Reference Librarian
  • Elizabeth Tapia, Placentia Library Adult Librarian

Their diverse experiences and roles across varying library settings provided invaluable insights into the library profession. Many topics were discussed in breakout rooms, such as a day in their lives, transitioning from part-time to full-time roles, leveraging association job listings, and juggling priorities. Alumni also shared what MLIS classes were valuable to their work today and how participating in ALASC’s executive committee provided skills they still use today.

Thanks to all the participants for the vibrant discussions! “Connect Over Coffee” is a great way to learn from peers on navigating library job opportunities post-graduation and connect with some amazing people. Make sure you don’t miss the next one!
