A view of the outside of Ålesund Library
Norway, with its stunning fjords and rich Viking history, is a haven for history buffs and nature lovers. Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Scandinavian town of Ålesund, Ålesund Bibliotek is more than just a library. It’s a vibrant hub that fosters a sense of community, serving as a vital resource for residents and visitors alike. Located on the second floor of the lower block by Ålesund Town Hall, the library offers a diverse range of events through its calendar. This month, it’s hosting classes on Zotero, including how to write a successful thesis and use EndNote. The library’s offerings cover the research areas and subjects taught at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Ålesund, including Health Science, Engineering Science, Maritime Technology, and Economic and Administrative subjects.
The children’s section at Ålesund Library
The charming library offers an inviting corner for children. It has a wide collection of children’s books, and every Wednesday, the library offers storytelling time. Special events are also organized during children’s vacation time. The library is centrally located across the cruise dock and next to the city hall (Rathaus). Free Wifi can be hard to find in the fjords and small villages, so this is a comfortable place to log on and relax. The library’s interior features a vast collection of books, multimedia resources, and cozy reading nooks. The front desk staff speak excellent English and are very helpful.
A view of a cruise ship from inside the library
If you visit at the right time during the year, you can indulge in the serene experience of observing majestic cruise boats while in the library. The library’s immense windows give you breathtaking views of the city’s bustling harbor. Norway is renowned for its striking architecture, blending Scandinavian design with modern elements. Although visitors report the building has not been updated in years, its view does more than makeup for it. One visitor noted that the library is basic and relaxing, but the view from the large, spacious windows keeps them returning. Because of its breathtaking views, location, and design, Ålesund Library is truly a gem in the heart of Norway. The Ålesund Library is open to the public and located at Kaiser Wilhelmsgt. 15, 6003 Ålesund, Norway. Although the library’s website is in Norwegian, it is still interesting.
