About Dr. Suellen Adams:
Dr. Suellen Adams is a current faculty member at SLIS and of ASIS&T. She currently works as an independent researcher and adjunct professor and is an experienced teacher, having taught a broad range of courses, both in LIS education and in undergraduate general studies. Her research specialty is information behavior and meaning-making, particularly in the context of popular culture, recreation and play.
About the Topic:
Her talk will be about her recent and continuing research on adult recreational athletes and how they find out what they need to know to succeed. The talk will include her methodology for collecting and analyzing the data for her research, as well as a scheme she developed to categorize the information environment for serious recreational athletes. Dr. Adams has provided the following snippet from an abstract about her work:
The information environment of serious recreational athletes exists on three levels. These levels are the written, the human community and the self. On each level there are two layers of information sources, one formal and one informal.
