ASIS&T New Leaders Award

SJSU ASIS&T is excited to announce that Jeremy McLaughlin is one of the recipients of the 2014-2016 ASIS&T New Leaders Awards. This award was established in 2010 and recognizes Jeremy’s enthusiasm and potential for leadership as a new member of ASIS&T.

Jeremy entered SLIS in 2014 and immediately joined ASIS&T and the SJSU ASIS&T Executive Committee as Programming Director. He was recently elected SJSU ASIS&T Executive Committee Chair for 2014-2015 and is currently working with the Committee on another exceptional year for our student chapter.

The New Leaders Awards are granted to ASIS&T members in their first three years of membership and are designed to recruit, engage, and retain new leadership and to identify potential for new leadership in the Association. The award includes conference registrations and up to $1000 in travel expenses over the next two Annual Meetings. Each New Leader will be assigned a mentor and to a SIG (special interest group) that they will meet with at the Annual Meetings and participate in associated projects throughout the year. Jeremy will be working with the Arts and Humanities SIG where he hopes to be involved with projects and research related to A&H bibliographic data management, researcher profiling, research assessment, and their representation in university and commercial repositories and data management platforms.

Award applications are welcome from new members in any chapter or SIG, and are reviewed by a selection committee comprised of at least four members from the Chapter Assembly, SIG Cabinet, and the ASIS&T Board. Eight awards are given each year, and this year was very competitive with a higher number of applications than in the past. SJSU ASIS&T is thrilled to have Jeremy representing us, and we’re looking forward to hearing about his experience as a New Leader in the coming months.
