Did you know the SJSU iSchool recently announced a new Advanced Certificate in Strategic Management of Digital Assets and Services?

Are you interested in data analysis and data visualization?

The San Jose State University ASIST Student Chapter welcomes Dr. Sandra Hirsh and Dr. Michelle Chen who will be introducing the new iSchool Advanced Certificate in SMDAS and some trends in data visualization for MLIS students.

Dr. Hirsh will provide an overview of the Advanced Certificate, which focuses on the practical skills needed to integrate and manage an increasingly complex body of content like born digital, newly digitized, and Web 2.0 models of user-generated content. Learning outcomes and applied skills are critical for information professionals in a print and digital world. Within the Certificate program, one pathway is Data Analytics and Data Driven Decision Making. Dr. Chen, who teaches two popular classes on Big Data and Data Visualization at SJSU, will introduce attendees to several data visualization tools used by students in the program. This includes Many Eyes, Tableau, and Splunk. Dr. Chen will also discuss how information visualization can help libraries and librarians utilize their abundant data resources to provide better patron services through enhanced collection analysis, resource allocation, and user engagement.

We look forward to seeing you there.
