A message from SJSU School of Information

The American Library Association Student Chapter (ALASC) at SJSU’s School of Information is now accepting nominations for the 2021-2022 executive board.

This is a great opportunity to gain leadership experience, work on your communication skills, connect with fellow students, and make a real difference at the iSchool and in the field of information science. You will join a passionate group of fellow students who are determined to effect positive change and create a wonderful environment of learning and growth at our school.

We invite you to self-nominate for the following positions (*asterisk indicates that an incumbent is also running for this position):

  • ·         Chair
    • Oversees and manages chapter
    • Responds to emails sent to main chapter email
    • Creates board meeting agendas
    • Facilitates board meetings
    • Answers questions/provides guidance
  • ·         Co-Chair / Webmaster*
    • Maintains/updates website (WordPress)
    • Maintains/updates Canvas page
    • Maintains blog, posts new content with the help of the blogging  assistants
    • Leads board meetings when Chair is not present
    • Assists Chair with overall group facilitation
  • ·         Treasurer (must be San Jose adjacent )
    • Maintains chapter budget
    • Maintains ALASC Cafepress store
    • Handles anything relating to financial processes
    • Position requires some on-campus commitments throughout the year long-term

We invite you to self  nominate to join the ALASC Executive Board by April 17, 2020.

To do so please send an email to sjsualasc@gmail.com with the subject of “NOMINATION” and a brief bio including why the nominated person would make a good fit for that position. This bio is used with our elections announcement for all iSchool members to review as they vote for candidates.

Requirements

Nominees must be currently enrolled students (taking at least 3 credits)  at San Jose State University School of Information and be able to commit to at least 1 to 2 hours a week to the chapter, depending on your position and if you decide to help out with any of our committees or events.

All elected executive board members must be members of the American Library Association, though it is not required at the time of nomination. All positions are expected to attend the monthly meetings of the executive board at a time that will be set by the next board.

Nominations are now OPEN until April 17, 2020. Afterward, voting by the student body will open from April 19 to April 27 and will take place on Canvas (more information to follow on how to vote). Results will be announced on April 29 and the new board will be transitioned soon after.
