On Feb 24, 2025, ALASC had the honor of hosting ALA 2026-2027 presidential candidates, Andrea Jamison, Lindsay Cronk, and Maria McCauley as speakers to discuss their presidential campaigns and initiatives as possible future ALA President.
Each candidate took a moment to introduce themselves and a slide with their bio was shared (this information is also available in this ALASC blog post). Unfortunately, candidate Lindsay Cronk could not attend and Marie had lost her voice due to an illness, our event host Cat Tang read their bios as a means of introduction. A Q&A session followed with enthusiastic input by both Andrea and Maria, who discussed the defense of intellectual freedom and the right to read, misinformation about libraries that is perpetuated by politics, and the future of AI in an information professional setting. ALASC is grateful to have had an opportunity to host the candidates, and we want to thank Maria, Lindsay, and Andrea for taking the time out of their busy schedule to spend an evening with the students at the iSchool!
UPDATE: As of March 7, 2025 Andrea Jamison has withdrawn from the election campaign. Voting starts on Mar 10, 2025!
