Please join the ALASC for a special presentation with guest speaker Tina McPherson who will explore how librarians can contribute to community resilience work by creating a culture of respect, understanding, and empathy. Students will participate in discussions and activities to further our understanding of diversity and inclusion and how to apply this knowledge in our careers in the field of library and information science. We’ll learn how we can foster a sense of belonging for people of diverse ethnicity, age, gender, and beyond, in a welcoming environment. Together we can work as change agents to address the challenges of today’s society and better serve our diverse communities.
Tina McPherson is Business Faculty and Librarian at Bryant & Stratton College, Richmond campus. She earned her Master of Library Science degree from the University of North Texas in 2012. Tina’s teaching philosophy is driven by her passion and interest in helping students gain the self-efficacy and habit of mind they need in their education, careers, and personal lives to improve and be lifelong learners. She gave a presentation on “Libraries as Contributors to Community Resilience” at the SJSU-sponsored Library 2.0 conference on Sustainability in Libraries in October 2020.
