Welcome to the Spring issue of ALASC’s newsletter, the iSchool Descriptor!
This issue is another mix of student and faculty voices. You will read a book review about the advantages of online collaboration among scientists, including information scientists. You will learn from a research paper covering LGBTQ youth online information communities. You will consider a different perspective on marketing one’s skills for a career in digital asset management. You will also discover how one public library is teaching girls tech. We also have two faculty contributors, reflecting on their work in the profession and their dedication to our iSchool community.
If you have not yet submitted a piece for publication in the iSchool Descriptor, then I encourage you to do so. We seek to publish internship and fellowship recaps, book reviews, job experiences, comics, event attendee summaries, poetry, and any other LIS content that you feel is worth sharing with and beyond our iSchool community. If you have an idea, please contact us at alasc.descriptor@yahoo.com. Who knows? If you keep following ALASC on Facebook or Twitter for updates and upcoming events, you might stumble upon a topic to develop into an article for us.
Because this is my last issue as your ALASC Newsletter Editor, I would like to personally thank you for reading our publication during my two years as your elected board officer. My experience has been nothing but rewarding, filled with a variety of positive learning opportunities! I sincerely appreciate your continued support for the iSchool Descriptor, as do the rest of the ALASC board officers.
Please be on the lookout for our next issue’s calls for submissions from your new ALASC Newsletter Editor via iSchool-Share, iSchoolAlert, Facebook, and here on our website’s Current Submissions Information page.
Sincerely,
Kerstin Carson
