Get to Know the newest member of the ALASC Executive Committee – Treasurer Elizabeth Kuykendall!

What inspired you to get into the library field?

The core values of the profession really appealed to me. Plus, libraries have always been my happy places.

Who are your favorite books/authors?

In no particular order:
Anything by Jane Austen or a Brontë sister
the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley
the Harry Potter series (though my author crush on JK Rowling has been obliterated due to her blatant transphobia)
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell

Where is your favorite spot to vacation?

Hmm. Maybe some quaint and charming New England town? Though I also very much look forward to exploring Europe someday when I win the lottery.

What do you do to unwind?

Hanging out with my cats! And jigsaw puzzles.

What do you hope to accomplish with your MLIS?

The further I get into the program, the less sure I am exactly what I want to do when I graduate. (That’s how it’s supposed to work, right?) Public libraries have always been my thing, but I currently work in an academic library and really like that, too. In a more general sense, I want to connect people with information and resources that help make their lives better in some way.

Thanks so much, Elizabeth!
