Happy Spring Semester MLIS fam
This is Carlos Bugarin Chair from ALASC with a few scholarship tips, tricks, and resources. A quick review of my expertise in the area includes being the recipient of a handful of scholarships including the Gates Millenium Scholarship. In addition, I served as a college and career coordinator for 9-11th grade students at San Diego High School.
Below are a few tips and resources for scholarship searching.
Reminder: The FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) application is now open. In order to qualify for federal financial aid and aid at most schools, including San Jose State University, you must submit a FAFSA application. Check out your state’s submission deadline below:
Tips
- For financial aid consider scholarships, work-study, fellowship and grant opportunities.
- Use search terms for “scholarships” and specific identities/skills/communities you identify with for financial help.
- For myself I looked for scholarships for Latinos, dancers, first-generation, graduate students, and Science teachers.
- Look for financial aid specific to your living area.
- I found a few scholarships for myself that were specific to Northern California (where I live).
- Consider preformed scholarship lists within your state.
