My name is Tyrone Ko. I am currently based in Fremont, CA (about a 30 minute drive to SJSU). When I am not working my two jobs or doing homework, I consider myself an avid sneakerhead collector and casual, light video gamer.

I currently work as a freelance designer and a librarian aide at SMCL. Additionally, I am in the SJSU MLIS program and currently taking 11 units this semester. This is my second semester and I look forward to deep diving more into what I can extract in my learning and graduate with a better idea of how to integrate technologies into library systems and the importance of good design for better experiences for users.

“I look forward to deep diving more into

My original idea in being in this space is to be a fly on the wall and if the opportunity comes to bring over what I have learned in my brief experience in design, I would like to offer that, even with my ever busy schedule and current load of demands.

My interest in libraries genuinely started at a young age when I used to collect bookmarks when I was in grade school. When I was a junior in high school, I was a teacher’s assistant for the school library and did a lot of shelving and had some experience checking in and out materials. I always felt the library was a sacred space for me as that was always the place I went to whenever I needed to get homework done, print stuff out, do group projects, and even take a nap near the manga section! I was never the rotunda guy and felt the library was my go-to every chance I had. Currently, I really enjoy the job I do as a librarian aide and the community I serve.

“Originally [I] went with the graphic design route,
but went self taught in UX because it was a natural fit that
combined not only the creative side but also the technical side.”

I also had a creative side as I was big in design. When I first started out, one thing I noticed about myself was I had a knack of great visuals and composition. I originally went with the graphic design route, but went self taught in UX because it was a natural fit that combined not only the creative side but also the technical side and the work I do in serving the community as a librarian. The rest is history.

As for future goals, I like to keep that a secret for now. To get a better idea, all I want to showcase is that I am very fortunate to have two passions, which is librarianship and design.
