Join ALASC as we visit Los Angeles Public Library’s state of the art Central Library. Enjoy the art and architecture of the wonderful Goodhue Building with its distinctive sphinxes and rooftop pyramid. Wander through the high-tech. Bradley Wing, designed by famed architect Norman Pfeiffer, and gaze at the 8-story atrium with its whimsical chandeliers. Learn about the library’s comprehensive book, magazine, audio and videotape collections as well as its extensive network of informational databases. This tour will include a tour of the library’s operations as well as a tour of the library’s architecture and the Maquire Gardens. Afterwards we will stroll over to the farmers market for lunch.

Attention Pacific Northwest SLIS students! Join ALASC Program Coordinator Elaine Hall and local SLIS students for a tour of the Seattle Public Library on February 27th at 11:00am. The Seattle Public Library, known for their mission to bring people, information and ideas together to enrich lives and build community, is located in the heart of downtown Seattle. The tour will be led by Jodee Fenton, Special Collections Librarian and Archivist, and will focus on library operations and circulation.
This tour is limited to 20 attendees. If you would like to attend this tour, please email sjsualasc@gmail.com and indicate your interest in the Seattle Public Tour. If we get more than 20 registrations, names will be placed into a random drawing. All registrants will be notified of those results.

Mountain View Public Mobile Library Service Tour

This is a great opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Mountain View Library’s mobile library service. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to view the “mobile library” vehicle as well the back of house area of the library assigned to the mobile service. The Mobile Library makes 3 stops throughout the City, serving day care centers, retirement communities, corporations, and after school programs. The tour is hosted by ALASC Chair and SLIS Student Elizabeth Borghi and will be performed by Karin Bricker, Supervising Librarian Youth Services at Mountain View Public Library.
