Elizabeth’s Pick: Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, & Advice for Living Your Best Life by Alli Wong
Looking for something light and fun to read after finishing the semester? Alli Wong’s book is the perfect winter break read. It’s raunchy and hilarious–just what you need to de-stress. Plus, her description of going through a miscarriage and the chapter written by her husband at the end are genuinely touching.
Greta’s Pick:Â Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson
Honestly it may be in my top 3 of the year. The story discusses race, class, other social pressures that affect a family after a teen pregnancy. Told through multiple viewpoints, the stories are honest, intimate, and relatable. It is beautifully written, a quick read, and I highly recommend.
Violet’s Pick:Â Hey, Kiddo by Jarrett J. Krosoczka
I really enjoyed this touching graphic memoir which describes the author’s experience growing up in the shadow of his mother’s addiction, raised by loving but flawed grandparents. The characters are unique and beautifully captured through Krosoczka’s expressive art and storytelling. Highly recommend for teens and adults.
