Please join SJSU ALASC on a FREE behind-the-scenes tour of Blizzard Entertainment in Irvine, CA! The tour will take place Friday, April 13, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Here is your chance to learn more about Blizzard’s archivist team, the Vault, as they work to curate, catalog, and care for special collections that include: digital assets, artwork, sound and video files from video games, life-size statues, physical memorabilia, books, movies, board games, and more! The tour will include the main campus of Blizzard, the newly redone museum, the official library for employee use, and a Q&A session with the Vault team! Afterward you are welcome to stay and sample the delicious food at the Blizzard Cafe or grab a coffee at the in-house Starbucks.
Blizzard is a video game developer and publisher based in Irvine, a subsidiary of Activision. They are the company that put out World of Warcraft, Starcraft, the Diablo series, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and most recently the massively popular Overwatch.
Kotaku article on the Blizzard library: “Blizzard’s main campus is home to what might be the coolest (and nerdiest) library you’ve ever seen. The employee library, from which Blizzard staffers can check out books, software and more, is a great place to lose oneself. The Blizzard employee library is home to the informational—programming language texts, maps, historical reference—but it’s also filled with fun, as decades’ worth of PC and console games take up almost half of the room’s space.”
Space is limited to only 13 students. Please RSVP using this form by April 6.
If more than 13 people RSVP, registrants will be placed into a random drawing to determine who can join the tour. Registrants will be notified with the results of the drawing on April 8.
Location: 1 Blizzard Way, Irvine, CA, 92618. Further instructions about parking, what to bring, and what to expect will be sent to attendees before the tour date.
