In celebration of National Poetry Month, the ALASC team hosted a virtual Poetry Open Mic Night on April 28, 2025 to give current iSchool students a space to share their creative work in community. The event began with a structured speaker lineup of five MLIS students reading their poetry followed by an open mic session. During a time of national uncertainty for many in our field, our iSchool student poets came together to create a positive, supportive space for contemplation and creative connection!
Many writers drew on themes of eco-poetry, using gripping imagery of the natural world to depict the immense weight of grief or the comfort provided by nature. From reflections on the escapism of road trips to narratives about the struggle to find belonging in rural life, our wonderful poets shared their personal stories through haikus, couplets, and free form poetry. And of course, poems about cats are always a joy to hear!
Thank you again to our talented iSchool poets for sharing your work with us!Â
