Register to attend the AI Hackathon for Public Sector: Accelerating San Jose’s AI Transformation with Gen-AI Powered Citizen Chatbots, Copilot Studio, and Data Security, set for May 8, 2025, at San Jose State University in collaboration with Slalom! Get ready for an exciting day of innovation and learning as we dive into AI skills that will accelerate the City of San Jose’s AI transformation.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Cybersecurity Awareness Month – observed every October – was developed with the purpose of raising awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and ensure that all individuals and organizations have the information and tools they need to be safer and more secure.

This year, our campus is focusing on the next generation of security through AI usage. Cybersecurity can seem overwhelming, but remember, there are many ways to keep your data and online presence protected. Whether on the job, at home or at school, you can make a huge difference – now and in the future.

Throughout the month of October, SJSU will host events that include guest speakers and contests with swags and prizes. Please see our NCSAM page for more event and resource information!

Learn the basics of Burp Suite and the inner workings of HTTP servers.  Work through security flaws in a group, find vulnerabilities in action, learn how to make safer websites.

The National Cybersecurity Training and Education (NCyTE) Center and the Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cybersecurity Community are hosting the eighth annual National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair.

Where it asks for university affiliation, San Jose State University is listed at the bottom.

The CIS Club will host a guest speaker, Steve Shirley, who will give a presentation on information technology in healthcare.

Steve Shirley has over over 44 years experience in the Information Technology field, with over 12 years experience in healthcare as the Vice President Information Technology and Chief Information Officer for Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado. He led a dedicated team of IT Professionals in support of the mission and strategic plan of the hospital.

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Colorado State University – Pueblo, a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics and an Associates of Applied Science degree in Computer Science Technology, both from the University of Southern Colorado. He is also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado.
