Archeota is the official publication of the Society of American Archivists Student Chapter at San José State University. We publish original, substantive content on issues and events connected with the world of archives. Archeota is a publication FOR students and BY students! This open access digital publication serves as a platform for students to join the archival conversation. Managing Editor: Katie Burns

Senior Editor: Gwendolyn Smith
Gwendolyn is a second year MLIS student. She was born in Tennessee and moved to San Jose, California when she was ten years old, where she has lived ever since. She graduated with a B.A. in History from the University of California, Davis in 2022 knowing that she wanted to pursue library and information science for her master’s degree. Gwendolyn has a lifelong love of history and cultural anthropology, along with a passion for education, and has always dreamed of working with institutions that bring all of these things together, such as archives, museums, and libraries. She has a special interest in preservation and digitization, to keep historical artifacts and knowledge alive for future generations, and to help block the wave of lost media spawned by the age of the internet. While her dream job would be either to work with historical artifacts in a museum or to work in digital archives, she knows that proper organization is important everywhere. Outside of library and information science, Gwendolyn loves to do embroidery and other crafts, play video games, read novels, and continue studying history.
Associate Editor: Jesse Jacobs
Jesse Jacobs is a second-year student in the MLIS program at SJSU. He holds a BS in Anthropology and an M.Ed. in Education. Upon graduation, he plans to use his education and customer service experience to work in an archive. He has a passion for learning, reading, writing, and research, always trying to improve how he approaches information and visiting topics and fields he doesn’t know as much about. Library science was a career change for him, yet one well-suited for his love for history, cataloging, sharing knowledge, and technology. He hopes to conclude his MLIS with multiple internships, remotely and in person, with aspirations to be a digital archivist. He lives in central New Hampshire with his wife, two golden retrievers, and his overabundance of collectibles and games. He shows while working as an English language teacher in person and online. He has always had a tendency to analyze grammar and can get lost in editing documents of all kinds, so joining Archeota seemed like a natural step when he was given the opportunity.
Associate Editor: Michelle Berman
Michelle Berman is a first-year student in the iSchool program. She holds an MA in Sociology from UCLA, where she first developed an interest in archives while researching her thesis on repertory cinemas. After serving as a graduate teaching assistant for courses on cultural sociology, ethnography, and social theory, she worked for several years as a quantitative data analyst in the market research industry, and is excited to be returning to the world of words, her first love. She hopes her lifelong annoying habit of correcting others’ grammar and usage will serve her well in her assistant editor role.
Associate Editor: Elsa Levecque
Elsa is about halfway through the MLIS program at SJSU. A history graduate from the University of Ottawa, Elsa wants to pursue a career in archives. Issues that motivate her are access to information and preserving the past, particularly through digital services and curation. Elsa lives in Ottawa, Ontario and enjoys reading, knitting, hiking, antiquing, and visiting historical sites and museums.
Associate Editor: Rea Sandhu
Rea Sandhu is a first-year MLIS student from the Bay Area. Rea has a great interest in history, archives, and digital preservation. Currently, she’s getting experience working as an intern on two oral history projects for various cultural communities in the Bay Area. She looks forward to exploring future opportunities in her career to continue giving back and preserving the stories of minority and marginalized communities. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, listening to music, playing video games, and finding new arts and crafts to try.
