Faculty Advisor : Alison Johnson
Alison Johnson serves as the faculty advisor for ALASC. She is a full-time Lecturer at the iSchool focusing on INFO 202 Information Retrieval System Design. Formerly, she was an academic librarian and loved working in the areas of reference, interlibrary loan, access services, systems, marketing, and information literacy. She lives in Indiana where she enjoys spending time outdoors amidst the cornfields, cooking, eating, and reading to her children.
Chair : Devina Martinez
Devina (she/her) is a second year student in the MLIS program. She holds a BA in English with a concentration in Professional and Technical Writing and an MA in Chicano and Chicana Studies, both from San José State University. Devina is exploring career paths in academic or public librarianship. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her two cats.
Treasurer : Kaliya Trias
Hello all! My name is Kaliya Trias and I began the MLIS program at SJSU in fall 2025. With a background in English Literature from CSULB, I have strived to become an academic librarian since year 1 of undergrad. While providing full time administrative support to a financial consulting firm in Southern California, I also enjoy exploring literature across cultures and staying engaged in academic writing and research. Although I am not new to the student leadership space, with previous executive board positions in my K-12 and collegiate years, I look forward to expanding my Treasure skills and experiences with ALASC!
Secretary/Archivist : James Le
Hello, I’m James and I’m currently in my first year of the MLIS Program. I previously worked in Student Services programs for community colleges. I love working with students and helping people in their academic journey. During my last position, I realized my passion for librarianship and now I am currently pursuing my MLIS to either become an academic librarian or an archivist. During my free time, I enjoy gaming, music, sewing, working out, and going to concerts.
Blogging Coordinator: Sophia Catalano
Hello! My name is Sophia (she/her) and I am currently enrolled in my second year at SJSU. I am interested in working in archives, museums, or in academic libraries. I was born and raised in Connecticut, and currently work in a museum (although not in my dream position).
When I’m not busy studying, I love to crochet, cross stitch, listen to music, and read books from my never ending TBR list. I am also a huge history nerd (my dogs are named Ajax and Athena for a reason), and a giant Star Wars fan. I am so excited to be the new Blogging Coordinator for the SJSU ALASC, and look forward to creating content for you all!
Blogging Assistant (March 2026-Present): Alondra Thomas
Alondra (she/her) began the MLIS program in Fall 2025. She holds a BA in Communications/Journalism from Shippensburg University. Through over a decade of experience in healthcare marketing and communications, she found a love for community outreach, life-long learning, and programming. She is exploring public librarianship through volunteering and currently works full-time in communications and part-time as a bookseller in San José. In her free time, Alondra enjoys book binding, listening to audiobooks on long walks, and playing TTRPGs.
Events Coordinator : Polya Tocheva
Polya Tocheva began the MLIS program in Fall 2024. For the past decade, she has worked in both public-facing and technical services roles at an academic law library, with plans to continue her career in law librarianship. Earlier in her professional life, Polya taught literature at the undergraduate level, and her enduring interest in Renaissance poetry continues to shape the way she thinks about stories and learning. Originally from Bulgaria, she now lives in Connecticut with her husband and young son. Outside of work and study, she has cultivated a deep passion for the science of reading and early literacy.
Events Coordinator : Yuna Miyamoto
Yuna (she/they) is in their third semester of SJSU’s MLIS program. Formerly they taught early childhood/elementary students in private and public schools. Libraries have always played a huge role in their life as a student and teacher. One of Yuna’s favorite parts about teaching was storytelling and sharing their love for books. Yuna dreams of becoming a librarian for young children to foster their joy and excitement for books and reading.
As ALASC’s Events Coordinator, Yuna is excited to plan memorable and meaningful events for students to develop professionally and connect personally. She looks forward to meeting new people and creating opportunities for everyone to have fun and learn something new.
In their free time, they enjoy hiking, scrapbooking and snuggling with their fur babies. They have two cats and a dog and live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her partner.
Social Media Coordinator: Lindsey Allen
Lindsey (she/her) is in her first semester of SJSU’s MLIS program. She completed her BA in history at University of Maryland, College Park where she worked part-time as a student library assistant. Lindsey is passionate about working in an environment that fosters learning and education through books and archives that inform the public about history in all its forms. She now works as a part time information staff member at her local public library. When she is not working or studying, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling, and visiting museums.
Social Media Assistant: Dajah Vaughn
Hello! My name is Dajah (she/her) and I am a Social Media Assistant. I am in my first year and second semester at SJSU, currently pursuing my first undergraduate degree in Information Science and Data Analytics. My academic and career goal is to obtain a MARA degree and nab a position as an Archivist for a museum, academic library, or special library. I currently work part-time as an Instructional Aide for elementary age children, and as a part-time Optical Sales Associate. In my leisurely time I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts while playing games, fitness, and trying new foods.
Social Media Assistant: Vicky Martinez
Vicky (she/her) is in her fourth semester of San José State University’s Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program. She is excited to explore career opportunities in academic libraries, and archives & preservation. She enjoys creating engaging social media content that highlights the value of libraries and archives and helps connect people with information. Outside of school, she is passionate about playing board and trivia games, trying new recipes in the kitchen, hiking, and traveling to new places.
Website Coordinator : Sudharshana Ganeshkumar
Sudharshana Ganeshkumar (she/they) is in her first semester of SJSU’s MLIS program and dreams of working in public libraries. Currently working as a Development Coordinator at a non-profit in Chicago, they spend their days by Lake Michigan, weightlifting, biking, reading and spending time with their friends. She is excited to contribute to the ALASC’s web presence and meet others in the ALA community!
Website Assistant: Katelyn Arasin
Katelyn (she/her) is in her final year of SJSU’s MLIS program. She is especially passionate about increasing the accessibility of resources through inclusive metadata practices. Presently, she works as a library technician and her primary role is aiding students and faculty with circulation and ILL. Katelyn also assists in projects to catalog and manage assets for the library’s main catalog and the special collections archive. When she isn’t immersed in libraries, she loves reading, weightlifting, playing tabletop games with friends, or relaxing with her spouse and three cats.
