An aerial view of a green valley with a lake

Hello and Welcome to 2026!

By Emma Cummings

I hope everyone had a relaxing winter break – we’re looking forward to having the energy for this Spring and a new year. For those that didn’t get a chance to rest up or are already feeling overwhelmed, you’re not on your own. The SJSU’s Wellness Center resources have links to in person and online tools and offices. If you prefer to fill your cup solo, some of these resources are guidance on setting goals and taking self assessments, as well as a list of other resources that may be helpful. Some studies show that self reflection is an important tool to improving academic performance. Check out a literature review The Effects of Student Reflection on Academic Performance and Motivation (read here), and single study Self-reflection and academic performance: is there a relationship? (access here).

This year we plan on covering topics in culture, community, global issues, rapid technological changes, and much more. The theme of 2026’s annual meeting in November is “Crossing Boundaries:  Advancing Global Dialogue and Well-being through Information Research and Practice”. Find a full description of the topics for the conference here. If any of our readers are looking to share their research, the submission site for paper, poster, and panel proposals is opening up in February.

In addition to looking towards the future, there were many amazing posters and panels at the Arlington/ DC 2025 conference, and we’re looking forward to having some member highlights in the coming months. If you would like to nominate anyone for a spotlight feature or share research in information and library science, reach out to us!
