Figma is a web-based design software that allows users to create, share, and test user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) prototypes.
- Sign up for a free Figma account with a student email (your.name@sjsu.edu).
- Verify education status during sign up
- You will receive the features included in the “professional team” tier including advanced prototyping, unlimited Figma files, file inspections, etc.
- Learn at your own pace
- Make websites, mobile apps, desktop apps, etc.
Coursera
Coursera is an online learning platform that offers a variety of courses and credentials from leading universities and companies.
- SJSU School of Information provides free access to Coursera if you are currently enrolled in one of the following programs:
- Master of Library and Information Science
- Master of Archives and Records Administration
- Master of Science in Informatics
- Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Data Analytics
- Gateway PhD programs

- Sign up for courses; can be accomplished at your own pace
- Many of the courses offer certifications at the completion of the course and can be added to your skills on your resume
- UX courses available: Google UX Design Certificate, Meta iOS Developer Certificate, Microsoft UX Design Professional Certificate, etc.
Youtube
YouTube is an online video-sharing website that has a myriad of topics available to learn about for free.
- Create an account to keep track of progress but it is not needed to view content
- YouTube Channel Bring Your Own Laptop has an array of short and long videos in UX/UI
- May need use of Adobe to follow along – sign up for a free account with school email (your.name@sjsu.edu)
- Search “UX design” and similar keywords on YouTube and find a channel that suits your learning style
LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn Learning is an online platform offering a wide range of video-based courses designed to help individuals develop professional skills across various industries.
- LinkedIn Learning is a part of student applications in the SJSU portal
- Create an account and associate your credentials with your academic institution (San Jose State University)
- Search for self-paced courses in UX, UI, design and much more.
CareerFoundry
CareerFoundry is an online career academy curated for tech professionals; with specialized courses in the fields of: UX design, UI design, product design, data analytics, web development, digital marketing, and product management.
