Greetings! My name is Shannon Broden, and my role on the Leadership Team is Blog Coordinator.
Being Blog Coordinator allows me to bring many areas of interest together to help other students. My undergraduate work was in radio, television, and an English degree emphasizing creative writing
Currently, being in the MLIS program is my second Masters degree, with my first covering a broad base of Communications for advertising and public relations. Professionally, I have many years to my credit working in the website and emerging technology space.
Additionally, under my maiden name of Shannon Elise Muir, I have presented a paper at the PCA/ACA Conference (now known as the Popular Culture Association), and written a thesis on the difference in effectiveness between live-action versus animated spokespersons in advertising and public service announcements.
What I have learned in all of those journeys is the importance of meeting people where they are, and the need to be clear in communicating with methods that are clear and easy to understand.
User experience at the core, at least to me, hinges on understanding where people are and the best ways to reach them.
The key is learning the most effective ways to do that. I personally believe that the UX student Group at the SJSU iSchool can help accomplish this by bringing together students with various emphases who are seeking that knowledge to go on the journey together.
Right now, I am using the blog to help members, potential members, the greater student body, and the public to better get to know the people behind the faces on the webpage. As we get a better sense of what students need and want to learn, that will help shape what future offerings are made available.
