Pearl is a graduate student in San José State University’s (SJSU) Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program. Previously, she worked as a writer creating and editing content that made technology management clear for public servants. She received a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in Asian American Studies at Northwestern University. In her free time, she reads, thrifts, looks at the ocean, and eats good food that other people cook. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two cats.

Vanessa earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Alberta, and a Library and Information Technology Diploma from MacEwan University. She has been working as a library para-professional for over 10 years and currently works as a cataloguing technician in a special library. She is passionate about metadata and updating problematic subject headings used within the LIS field. She is currently pursuing her MLIS at San Jose State University and expects to graduate in Spring 2026. Vanessa currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and in her free time enjoys knitting, lacemaking, and cross stitch.

Anastasia Warner, Communications Coordinator

Anastasia Warner is a graduate student in the Library and Information Science program at SJSU’s iSchool. Her interests include user experience design and information-seeking during and after natural disasters. Anastasia worked in communications in the non-profit sector and later in state government before completing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology via Capella University. She is fascinated by the intersections of information science, sociology, and behavioral science. Anastasia is a mom to one teenager, one dog, and a cat. She enjoys mountain and beach sports, bike riding, and listening to audiobooks.

Armando is a current MLIS student at San José State University and works as a teacher librarian in Los Angeles. He received a bachelor’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University in addition to master’s degrees in secondary education and Catholic school administration and a doctorate in education from Loyola Marymount University. Armando also holds a California Single Subject Teaching Credential with authorizations in English, English language development, social sciences, and physical education along with a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Professionally, Armando has spent 14 years in elementary and secondary education as a teacher, department chair, and principal in both Catholic and public schools. Armando’s interests include making library services accessible to English learners, teacher collaboration, and teaching research skills. 

Tahseen Choudhury is a current graduate student in the Master of Library and Information Science program at San José State University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Davis, and has a strong interest in digital archiving, metadata, and the preservation of diverse cultural histories. Tahseen has also volunteered at the Sacramento Public Library and is passionate about improving access to information through careful curation and inclusive storytelling. In her free time, Tahseen enjoys reading, exploring South Asian folklore, and writing fiction. She lives in San Jose, CA with her loving husband and three adorable cats.

Alysia Gilman is a current MLIS student at San José State University. She comes from a background in psychology, having completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of La Verne. Currently, Alysia works as a library associate at her local public library in Southern California. In her free time, she enjoys painting, baking, knitting, and spending time with her two cats.

Carly Coursey, an MLIS graduate student at SJSU, will graduate in Spring 2027. They hold a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University and a Library and Information Technology Certificate from Palomar College. Carly is published for both poetry and prose in the 2021 Palomar literary journal, Bravura. A member of ALA Core, they also do peer review for the Core journals ITAL and Library Leadership & Management. Inducted to Sigma Tau Delta and Phi Kappa Phi, Carly is a 2025 Continuing Student Scholarship recipient and current Membership Officer in the campuswide Pride Staff Association at the University of California, San Diego, where they work as a Bindery Coordinator & Library Assistant 4. Carly also serves on the Library Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Carly volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster youth in San Diego County. Find them relaxing with their 15-year-old daughter, partner, dog, and two cats.

Liz Harmer is a teacher, editor, and writer living in Southern California. Before starting the MLIS program at San José State University, she finished a Master of Fine Arts at Chapman University and a Master of Arts in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Toronto. Her creative writing has been published widely, and she currently works in Adult Services at a public library. She does a lot of yoga and dreams of learning to surf one day soon. 

Sage is a queer, disabled, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Person of Color) writer living in San Diego. They have completed a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University in the U.K., have interned for The Premier Media Group , and ran a blog, Stardust Stories. They are now working on a Master in Library and Information Science at San Jose State University.

Kimberly earned her sociology degree from California State University, Sacramento, and is currently pursuing a degree in Library and Information Science at San José State University. She is excited to begin tutoring to support individuals in reaching their literacy goals. Additionally, she is the founder of a nonprofit organization focused on improving animal welfare and facilitating pet adoptions in her local community. Her academic interests include qualitative research, social informatics, information behavior, and community outreach. Outside of studying, working, and volunteering, Kimberly enjoys traveling, photography, and spending time with her family and cats. She is based near Sacramento, California.
