We are excited to welcome six new editors to the Student Research Journal as we enter the fall semester. Read below to meet these fantastic new content and copy editors!
Alysia Gilman (Content Editor)
Alysia Gilman is a current MLIS student at San José State University. She comes from a background in psychology, having completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of La Verne. Currently, Alysia works as a library associate at her local public library in Southern California. In her free time, she enjoys painting, baking, knitting, and spending time with her two cats.
Myles Cunningham (Content Editor)
Myles is a MLIS student based out of Washington State. Prior to joining San José State, he obtained an MA in Philosophy and a BA in Geography and Political Science, both from the University of Oregon. His interests span the humanities and also include geospatial librarianship, data science, and public policy. Beginning in fall2024, Myles will work with the California State Library to initiate the California Libraries AI Coalition. In addition to his pursuits with the iSchool, he works in public services at his local public library system and enjoys outdoor sports, especially mountain biking.
Annie Johnson (Content Editor)
Annie Johnson is a current San Jose State University graduate student studying Library and Information Science. In 2023, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Santa Clara University with a concentration in professional writing. Annie has worked on multiple college publications and as a writing tutor to support university students in their written assignments. She currently works as a library aide at a Bay Area public library with aspirations to pursue a career in youth services. With an educational background in English and extensive work experience in editing and instruction, Annie is enthusiastic about the opportunity to hone her editing skills with the SRJ. In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to the movie theater, and spending time at the beach. Annie expects to graduate from SJSU in Spring 2025 and is excited to work with SRJ for her final semesters with iSchool.
Kristin Voris (Content Editor)
Kristin Voris is a graduate student in San Jose State University’s Masters of Library and Information Science program. Previously she worked in the technology industry in the Big Data space as an Engineering Program Manager. Kristin received a Bachelors of Liberal Arts degree from Willamette University, double majoring in English and Communications. While working in technology she fulfilled the communications role for her department and produced its newsletter. Kristin is an active board member of her Daughters of the American Revolution chapter. In her free time she cooks, gardens, travels, enjoys nature photography, and spends time with her extended family. She lives in San Jose, CA.
Ava Jones (Copy Editor)
Ava Jones is a third-year San Jose State University School of Information student. She is aiming to graduate with her MLIS in December 2024. Before entering the iSchool, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz. She has had a passion for editing since she was a child. Outside of school, she loves to read, garden, and bake. She currently lives in Southern California.
Vanessa Sztym (Copy Editor)
Vanessa earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Alberta, and a Library and Information Technology Diploma from MacEwan University. She has been working as a library para-professional for over ten years and currently works as a cataloguing technician in a special library. She is passionate about metadata and updating problematic subject headings used within the LIS field. She is currently pursuing her MLIS at San Jose State University and expects to graduate in Spring 2026. Vanessa currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and in her free time enjoys knitting, lacemaking, and cross stitch.
