Armando Carvalho, Editor in Chief<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armando is a current MLIS student at San Jos\u00e9 State University and works as a teacher librarian in Los Angeles. He received a bachelor\u2019s degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, in addition to master\u2019s degrees in secondary education and Catholic school administration, and a doctorate in education from Loyola Marymount University. Armando also holds a California Single Subject Teaching Credential with authorizations in English, English Language Development, social sciences, and physical education, along with a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Professionally, Armando has spent 15 years in elementary and secondary education as a teacher, department chair, and principal in both Catholic and public schools. Armando\u2019s interests include making library services accessible to English learners, teacher collaboration, and teaching research skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alyssa is a graduate student in the MLIS program at SJSU, where she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing in 2013. She spent 10 years working in the tech industry as an editorial lead, senior content strategist, and writer of all trades. As she’s passionate about writing support, you can currently find her working as a tutor and associate blog editor for the SJSU Writing Center. In her free time, she builds beautiful cottages in the Sims, follows easy recipes from YouTube, and reads 50 library books a year. She lives in Whittier, CA with her husband and very old, very good dog.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Rachel (she\/they) is a graduate student in the MLIS program at San Jos\u00e9 State University. Previously, they worked in fundraising and events at nonprofit organizations. They are a lifelong classical musician and hold a Bachelor of Music degree from Cleveland Institute of Music. Their areas of interests include youth services and teaching digital literacy in public libraries and music librarianship. In their free time, they enjoy running, line dancing, and reading fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dylan is a student of Library and Information Science at San Jos\u00e9 State University, where he also received his B.A. in Professional and Technical Writing. He has written news articles for his local paper and served as proofreader for the university’s English Department Newsletter. Dylan’s academic interests include preservation and supporting scholarly research, as he hopes to one day do both as a museum librarian. He also likes durian, hot weather, and black clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liz Harmer, Copy Editor<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Liz Harmer is a teacher, editor, and writer living in Southern California. Before starting the MLIS program at San Jos\u00e9 State\u00a0University, she finished a Master of Fine Arts at Chapman University and a Master of Arts in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Toronto. Her creative writing has been published widely, and she currently works as a Humanities teacher at a private school. She does a lot of yoga and dreams of learning to surf one day soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jessica Toth is a current MLIS student at San Jos\u00e9 State University. Previously, she worked in healthcare and technology as a UX Researcher. She returned to school full-time in 2025 to follow a growing passion for how emerging technologies shape knowledge representation, scholarly communication, and academic librarianship. Jessica holds a BA in Anthropology and an MS in Public Health from UNC Charlotte. She looks forward to bringing her background to her role as a content editor with the SRJ and to honing her editorial skills along the way. Jessica is based in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and enjoys being outdoors — especially mountain biking and gardening with her community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katherine is a graduate student in the MLIS program at San Jos\u00e9 State University. She received her bachelor\u2019s degree from UC Santa Cruz in the History of Art and Visual Culture with a minor in Classics. She is interested in archival studies and academic librarianship. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, mystery novels, spending time with her cat and dog, and attending a local weekend Shakespeare reading group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah Smith is a graduate student in the San Jos\u00e9 State University Master of Library and Information Science program. Based in Sacramento, CA, she is an education programs consultant for the California Department of Education. Prior to that, she taught high school history-social science. Sarah received a bachelor’s degree in international relations with a minor in Russian from California State University, Sacramento, and a master’s degree in secondary social science education from UC Davis. She lives with her husband, two scruffy dogs, and an orange cat, and enjoys running, reading, gardening, and attempting to knit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carly Coursey, Content Editor<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Carly Coursey is an MLIS student at San Jos\u00e9 State University, graduating in Spring 2027. They hold a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University and a Library and Information Technology Certificate from Palomar College. Carly serves as a Content Editor for the Student Research Journal<\/em> and is interested in academic librarianship, research and publishing, preservation, oral history, and the lived experiences of neurodivergent people in libraries. Their poetry and prose appear in the 2021 Palomar College literary journal Bravura<\/em>, and they serve as a peer reviewer for the Core journals Internet Technology and Libraries<\/em> and Library Leadership & Management<\/em>. Since 2018, Carly has worked in public, special, and academic libraries. At the University of California, San Diego, they are the Bindery Coordinator in the Preservation Lab, a founding member and Membership Officer of the Pride Staff Association, and a member of the Library Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Find them relaxing with their 15-year-old daughter, partner, and two cats \u2013 somewhere in the shade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
