Trying to decide whether the ePortfolio or Thesis option is right for you? Not sure what is involved with each type of project?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n SJSU ASIS&T Student Chapter is proud to host our first Career Development event of the fall 2014 semester: ePortfolio or Thesis: What\u2019s Right for You? with our co-sponsors the SJSU SLA Student Chapter. Dr. Debbie Hansen and Dr. Michelle Holschuh Simmons will be speaking about their experiences working with students completing ePortfolios and theses. Both projects may seem overwhelming, but with preparation and planning these culminating experiences are valuable learning tools. They will describe what is involved with each type of project, the workflow and requirements, and the pros and cons. They will also share some best practices and the ways culminating experiences can be used after graduation. <\/a>Dr. Michelle Holschuh Simmons<\/span>\u00a0is a Lecturer in the SJSU iSchool and she was the Consulting Librarian for the Arts and Humanities at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, for four years. Michelle was a recipient of the WISE Excellence in Online Teaching Award in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 and she was was awarded the iSchool Outstanding Teacher Award in 2011. Michelle is the co-chair of the iSchool Curriculum and Program Development Committee with Dr. Linda Main. Michelle lives in Monmouth, Illinois, with her husband Bob, who teaches in the Department of Classics at Monmouth College, and their four sons, Ben, David, Marc, and Alex.<\/p>\n![\"Hansen](\"http:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/asistsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Hansen-image.png\")
<\/a>An iSchool faculty member since 1989,\u00a0Dr. Debra Hansen<\/span>\u00a0currently teaches in the areas of archives, oral history, history of books and libraries, and information and society. She earned an MLIS from UCLA in 1983 and her doctorate in 1988 from the University of California, Irvine, where she specialized in 19th century American social and women’s history. Dr. Hansen’s research lies at the intersection of history and library science, focusing on the professionalization and feminization of librarianship in the West. Her scholarship has been published in\u00a0Libraries and Culture<\/em>,\u00a0Library Trends<\/em>\u00a0and other LIS and history periodicals as well as in edited anthologies and historical encyclopedias.<\/p>\nEvents Links<\/h3>\n
