SLA 2014<\/p>\n
Vancouver, British Columbia \u2013 7-10 June 2014<\/p>\n
The SLA 2014 annual conference was recently held in Vancouver and a number of SLIS\u00a0 people participated in various program sessions and meetings, as well as spending time in our booth and at SLIS-sponsored events.\u00a0 We had current students attending, as well as at least one incoming student for Fall 2014, a number of alumni, faculty, staff, internship site supervisors and more.\u00a0 Additionally, a number of people with connections to SLIS were recognized during the conference.\u00a0 Advisory Board members, Jane Dysart and Anne Caputo were inducted into SLA\u2019s Hall of Fame; CIRI Advisory Board member, Libby Trudell received the Vormelker Award, and alum Cindy Hill received the John Cotton Dana Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n On Saturday evening we sponsored a reception that was well attended.\u00a0 On Sunday morning, in addition to the awards mentioned above, John Wilbanks of Sage Bionetworks gave the keynote address discussing advances in health-care related information technology.\u00a0 Program sessions sponsored by various SLA units took place Sunday afternoon, and throughout the day Monday and Tuesday.\u00a0 Social\/networking events occurred during the evenings.<\/p>\n SLIS did have a booth in the exhibit hall and we spoke with many visitors while the exhibits were open.\u00a0 In addition to current students, alums, and other friends of SLIS, we also spoke with potential new students.\u00a0 Interest was shown in all our programs, especially in the Ph.D. program, the certificates and the new i.School Open classes.<\/p>\n
