Learn about the skills and knowledge needed for this exciting area of librarianship. We\u2019ll hear from information professionals who work in art and history museum settings, as they discuss their positions, job responsibilities, educational backgrounds, and career paths.<\/p>\n<p>The main event will run from 6:30-7:30 pm Pacific. Join us beforehand for a social chat at 6:15 \u2013 it\u2019s an excellent opportunity to meet fellow students and the SLASC Executive Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees will also have the chance to enter a raffle to win a $25 gift card by taking our survey at the end!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong>\u00a0Tuesday, March 26, 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong>\u00a06:30 p.m. \u2013 7:30 p.m. (Pacific Time)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Session Link:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sjsu.zoom.us\/j\/994316481\">https:\/\/sjsu.zoom.us\/j\/994316481<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Speakers will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Amanda Castro<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/slasc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/picture122-500x500-150x150.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Amanda Castro received her B.A. in Public History from California State University San Bernardino in 2014. During her senior year as a undergraduate Amanda was the project manager for the Patton State Hospital Museum. The museum was the first of its kind in California because of its location on Department of State Hospital grounds. She went on to receive her M.A. in Social and Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Public History in 2017 at CSUSB. Her M.A. thesis titled\u00a0<i>Mental Health Memories: A Web-Based Archive for Mental Health Stories\u00a0<\/i>highlighted four individuals with mental health experiences by not only conducting oral histories but also telling their stories through objects and music. Amanda Castro is currently the Museum Director at Malki Museum, a Native American history and culture museum located on the Morongo Reservation, where her tasks include museum, archive, and library management. She also conducts all administrative work. The Malki Museum\u2019s upcoming projects include updating exhibit space and taking inventory of all of Malki Museum\u2019s collections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Karen Pfaffer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/slasc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Karen-150x150.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Karen started pursuing her MLIS at San Jose State in the fall of 2018. In addition to her studies she serves as the SLA student chapter Vice President. She currently works within the library at Academy Art University in San Francisco as a library assistant and is completing a spring internship at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) Library + Archive applying archival, research, and original cataloging skills. Karen has a BA in Studio Art from Mills College, has a passion for creating art and working with artists, and after graduation would love to continue working in the special librarianship field working at an art library, in a museum, archive, or gallery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Linta Kunnathuparambil<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/slasc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Linta_2-150x150.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Linta began her MLIS career in Spring 2016 and is also the current Webmaster of the SJSU SLA student chapter. She currently works full-time as the Systems and Digital Initiatives Assistant at the William H. Hannon Library in Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. Prior to that, she worked as a library assistant at the Getty Research Institute library for four years. Linta got her start at the GRI through her experience as the Getty Multicultural Undergraduate Intern at the UCLA Fowler Museum and the Getty Center. She eventually became an acquisitions assistant at the GRI and decided to pursue her MLIS degree through SJSU. Later, she became a digital library assistant and worked on mass digitization projects.
