We’re less than two weeks away from\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a very special event, which we’ve collaborated with our\u00a0SAASC friends to help organize<\/a>. Join us on May 1 for The End of Term Web Archive: Collecting & Preserving the .gov Information Sphere<\/a>.<\/p>\n

From 6:30-7:00pm<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(Pacific), San Jos\u00e9 State University\u2019s student chapters of the Special Libraries Association and the Society of American Archivists will be hosting a virtual social (half) hour. Join us and get to know your classmates! This is a great time to ask questions, network, and even commiserate. The program will be from 7:00-8:00pm<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

In the fall of 2016, a group of institutions \u2013 Internet Archive, Library of Congress, CA Digital Library, and libraries from the University of North Texas, Stanford University, and George Washington University \u2013 organized to preserve a snapshot of the federal government website. This is the third time this End of Term (EOT) group has organized with the goals of identifying, harvesting, preserving, and providing access to a snapshot of the federal government web presence. They do this for two important reasons. The first is that the transition of elected officials in the federal government\u2019s executive branch prompts a reset of sites like\u00a0www.WhiteHouse.gov<\/a>, so it\u2019s critical to document the changes. The EOT group\u2019s work also provides a broad snapshot of the federal domain once every four years; it\u2019s replicated among a number of organizations for long-term preservation.<\/p>\n


\nJames Jacobs<\/a> from Stanford University Libraries and Jefferson Bailey from the Internet Archive will discuss the project’s methods for identifying and selecting in-scope content, strategies for capturing web content, and access models for collected content.<\/span><\/p>\n
