Kirk Cabeen Travel Stipend Award<\/strong> is offered to a library school student or\u00a0first time conference attendee. This $1,000 award, generously supported by SPIE\u00a0Digital Library, is to be used toward expenses of attending the Special Libraries\u00a0Association (SLA) Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA on June 12-14, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a library school student at an ALA-accredited library school<\/li>\n<li>OR, if NOT a student, then applicant should be a recent graduate\/ early career\u00a0librarian attending his or her first SLA Annual Conference.<\/li>\n<li>Be a current member of SLA, preference going to Science-Technology Division\u00a0members. Please note, membership in SLA for students or low-income librarians\u00a0is very affordable ($50 US). See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hq.sla.org\/cvweb_sla\/cgi-bin\/memberdll.dll\/info?wrp=membershipapp.htm\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/hq.sla.org\/cvweb_sla\/cgi-bin\/memberdll.dll\/info?wrp=membershipapp.htm<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NOMINATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-nominations are encouraged.<\/li>\n<li>Send a typed application letter including complete title, Library School and\u00a0anticipated graduation date (if applicable), employer (if applicable), and all\u00a0professional and personal contact information.<\/li>\n<li>All nominations <strong>MUST<\/strong> also include a short essay (500 words or less). As Sci-Tech\u00a0Librarians, we need to be nimble and able to adapt to change. Please write a short\u00a0essay on the theme of \u201cTrends in libraries that will affect Sci-Tech Librarianship in\u00a0the next five years\u201d. The essay should be double-spaced. Neatness, spelling and\u00a0grammar will count in judging.<\/li>\n<li>Supporting documentation <strong>MUST<\/strong> include a current curriculum vita OR resume for\u00a0the candidate.<\/li>\n<li>Supporting documentation <strong>SHOULD<\/strong> include supporting letters from instructors,\u00a0employers, or colleagues, as applicable. A list of significant publications (if\u00a0applicable), or other documentation regarding qualifications may be included.<\/li>\n<li>Applications should also mention if you are currently applying for other SLA\u00a0Division awards or any other SLA awards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: March 31, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nominations and all accompanying materials should be sent to Janet Hughes,\u00a0Chair of the Sci-Tech Division Awards Committee, at the following email\u00a0address: <a href=\"mailto:jah19@psu.edu\" target=\"_blank\">jah19@psu.edu<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>POST AWARD REQUIREMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Recipient(s) will write a brief article (approximately 1,000 words) on the\u00a0conference experience for the November 2016 Sci-Tech News.<\/li>\n<li>Recipient(s) will be asked to serve on the Science-Technology Division Awards\u00a0Committee in the following year to provide for the continuity and enthusiasm of\u00a0the awards.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>NOTIFICATION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Applicants will receive notification of award status by mid-April 2016. The\u00a0award check can be presented at the Annual Conference or sent to the recipient\u00a0as soon as the receipts (travel expenses, registration, hotel, etc.) are received by\u00a0the Awards Chairperson or Treasurer.<\/li>\n<li>The recipient\u2019s name will be posted to the Science-Technology Division\u2019s Website, as will the winning essay.<\/li>\n<li>The award will be announced and presented to the recipient at the Science-Technology Division\u2019s All-Sciences &amp; Engineering Poster Session on Monday June\u00a013, 5pm-7pm.
