President<\/strong><\/strong>: Adina Vega<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Adina Serapia Vega (she\/her) is a proud Chicana and MLIS student based in southern Colorado. With a professional background in nonprofit marketing, she blends communications expertise with a deep commitment to community engagement and social equity. She is especially proud of her long-standing volunteer work with organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the Sierra Club, and her local library district, where her service\u2014and a meaningful moment at a volunteer appreciation dinner\u2014led her to pursue librarianship professionally. Since then, she has taken on various roles within the library, including work in Special Collections, Community Relations, and for over a year, the Technical Services Department, where she assists with cataloging books, media, and unique programming, such as the Seed Library and the Library of Things. In addition to her work within the library system, Adina is an active volunteer at the library’s Friends of the Library (FOL) used bookstore. She currently manages the store\u2019s promotions and has served as Secretary on the FOL board for two years. Adina has held her position as Blog Director for the Special Libraries Association Student Chapter (SLASC) for nearly two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her work is grounded in a passion for mental health accessibility and affordability, community activism, and representation within the library system. Adina is particularly interested in advancing Latinx voices and experiences in academic librarianship, with a focus on cataloging and classification. She is set to graduate in spring 2026. Her interests include collecting and reading alternative graphic novels, indie pop rock, needle felting, mid-century modern design, and thrifting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice President: Emily Stockton<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Emily (she\/her) began her MLIS journey at San Jose State University in Fall 2024. Based in the Sacramento area, she currently works as a student assistant in the Law Section of the California State Library. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology with an emphasis in sociocultural studies from Arizona State University. Emily\u2019s background in cultural research sparked her passion for improving public access to information. She is especially interested in outreach and community engagement, striving to create meaningful connections between libraries and the communities they serve. In her free time, Emily enjoys crocheting, spending time with her cat, watching movies and television, and reading as many books as possible. As part of the SLASC leadership team, she looks forward to fostering connections and inspiring others through positivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erin (she\/her\/hers) began the MLIS program in Spring 2021 and is following the Digital Curation pathway while working towards the Digital Assets Management certificate. She lives in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles with her husband, two children, and lots of pets. She currently volunteers at the Sherman Grinberg Film Library in Chatsworth, CA. She has a BA in Liberal Studies from Cal State Long Beach, and her other academic pursuits are Archival Studies, Art History, Studio Art, Museum Studies, and French. Her family stewards a Little Free Library and a Free Little Art Gallery in their front yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secretary: Vana Chalian <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Vana Chalian (she\/her) started her MLIS journey in 2025 and is following the Academic Librarian pathway, with a focus on Health Sciences and Medical Libraries. She earned her Bachelor\u2019s degree in Psychology, with a minor in Disabilities Studies, from UC Berkeley. She currently volunteers virtually with the library at Pacific Northwest University (PNWU) in Yakima, Washington, and plans to graduate in Spring 2026. She lives in Calabasas, CA, is a member of the MLGSCA Professional Issues Committee, and is passionate about her work with the International Association of Armenian Librarians and Archivists (IAALA). She is happiest walking with her Frenchie, Moogik, at a vintage or flea market and at the beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archivist: Delilah Rivera-Solis<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

<\/span><\/span>Delilah is a first-year MLIS student at San Jos\u00e9 State University, set to graduate in Spring 2027. She earned her B.A. in History from UC Riverside, where she focused on the history of science and technology. During her time at UCR, her internship with A People\u2019s History of the Inland Empire sparked an interest in digital humanities and led to a deeper interest in archival work. After this experience, Delilah interned as the Collections Intern at the California Citrus State Historic Park and as the Special Collections and Archives Intern at her local public library, gaining experience supporting archival and digital preservation work. She is especially drawn to the intersection of archives, science, and technology and hopes to help preserve the records that make scientific discovery possible. She hopes to work in a scientific or technical archival institution that allows her to contribute to this mission. In her free time, she enjoys making crafts, watching documentaries, and spending quality time with her daughter and partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Archivist: Marleigh Anderson <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Marleigh Anderson (she\/her) is a first year MLIS student currently based in northern California. She became interested in library work after working for the Whitman College and Northwest Archives as an undergraduate. While there she started her own oral history project, The Centering Disabled Voices Oral History Project, where she interviewed fellow Disabled students on their experience with accessibility in and outside the classroom. Marleigh currently works at her local library and spends the rest of her time volunteering at a nearby historical society in the archives. As a volunteer she works to increase engagement and online accessibility with local history. She is passionate about the intersection between accessible community spaces and information science. Outside of work and school, Marleigh enjoys attending concerts, hosting book clubs, and crafting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Programming Director: Taylor Galuppi<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Taylor Galuppi (They\/Them) is an MLIS student based in Los Angeles, CA. After spending several years as a pastry chef, they received their bachelors in Applied Anthropology from CSU Dominguez Hills. This kindled a love of qualitative research in the fields of Medical Anthropology and Disability Studies\/Activism that special librarianship in both Medical and Archival fields have been vital. Currently an assistant at El Segundo Public Library, Taylor hopes to expand their horizons through SLASC by working to expose members to unique libraries nationwide and how they serve their respective communities. When not working or studying, Taylor loves knitting and crochet, reading, and foraging whilst taking their dogs on hikes around the Los Angeles area. They expect to graduate in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Programming Director: Lizette Avina<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Lizette Avina (she\/her) is a first-year MLIS student at San Jos\u00e9 State University, set to graduate in Spring 2027. She holds a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Psychology from California State University, Fresno, where her academic work sparked a deeper interest in mental health, community advocacy, and equitable access to information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a strong passion for digital curation and archiving, she is especially drawn to preserving the stories, art, and histories of marginalized communities. Her work is grounded in a commitment to social justice and a belief that libraries and archives can serve as transformative spaces for healing, visibility, and collective memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of her studies, she is a creative at heart. She explores photography and digital art as tools for storytelling, often blending documentary style with surrealist elements. She\u2019s also an avid baker who sees baking as another way to express care and creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Assistant Programming<\/strong> Director<\/strong>:<\/strong> Brittani Alberto-Shaikh<\/strong> <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Brittani (she\/her) is a first-year MLIS student at SJSU and aims to graduate in 2028. She is a proud Filipino, historian, and Eastern Los Angeles native. She currently lives in the San Gabriel Valley with her husband and daughter. She has a previous Master\u2019s Degree in History from California State University, Los Angeles, focusing on environmental history. She currently works as an Educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA). She is interested in all things historical, botanical, mycological, and ornithological, especially when it comes to libraries and archives. She hopes to work in a horticultural library one day. In her free time, Brittani loves traveling, reading, eating, and birding. She is part of the LA Raptor Project, where she helps to document breeding raptors throughout Los Angeles County.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gillian (she\/her) was born and raised in San Jose, California. She received her Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from Santa Clara University in Spring 2024 and began her MLIS journey at San Jose State University in Spring 2025. Gillian’s background in marketing has led to her interest in libraries, specifically in the ways information can be meaningfully connected to people who need it. She is especially interested in special libraries and their ability to tailor information services to niche, unique communities in non-traditional library settings. She has experience as a Library Clerk at an elementary school library and a Library Page at a public library. She volunteers weekly at a public library as a Tech Mentor, further connecting with members of her San Jose community. Outside of school and work, Gillian enjoys listening to music, playing computer\/video games, reading, and watching movies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madison is a first year MLIS student with plans to graduate in Fall 2026. She graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor\u2019s in Art History in 2021. She recently returned from teaching English in South Korea for 2 years and currently lives in Kansas City, MO with her family. She has worked for Mid Continent Public Library twice, the first time as a Customer Service Associate for a year, the second as an Early Literacy Associate since January 2025. She has volunteered at Excelsior Springs Museum in Archival in 2022 and is currently interning at William Jewell\u2019s Curry Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sabine (she\/her) is originally from a small town near Munich, Germany and now lives in Chatsworth near Los Angeles, CA. She holds a BS and MA in Film, TV and New Media from San Diego State University. For the last decade she has been working in the Property Department for various shows. Since Spring 2024, Sabine has been part of the MLIS program, and hopes to graduate by Spring 2026. Her love for researching props functionality, history and aesthetics; as well as organizing and cataloging props has led her on a journey towards archives or special librarianship. In her spare time, she likes to visit all types of museums, explore nature, and hang out with her 3 guinea pigs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Jennifer (Jen) currently lives in Los Angeles, California. She began pursuing her MLIS degree at SJSU in Fall 2024. Prior to her current studies, she worked as a production coordinator for many network television shows over the years. She is still figuring out how she wants to apply her degree, but she\u2019s interested in archives, special collections, and acting as a resource for the public. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband, watching movies, trying new restaurants, and playing Super Mario Odyssey for the hundredth time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Assistant Membership Director: Sarah Matteson<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Sarah (she\/her\/hers) is a California native, currently living in the Denver metro area. She got her first taste of library work in operations\/circulation at a small system in New Mexico. Finding the work enjoyable, she decided to enroll in SJSU\u2019s MLIS program after perusing the class catalog and determining that nearly everything looked interesting. Primarily interested in special libraries, she is still exploring the wide array of options in this subfield. Sarah began the program in Spring 2025, and hopes to graduate in the Fall 2026. She has bachelors degrees in history and political science from UCLA, and was lucky enough to spend the first part of her career in museum education and exhibit development. She also has experience in volunteer training and management, including the planning and execution of learning conferences. In her spare time she works in her garden and dabbles in various arts and crafts \u2013 crochet and watercolor, amongst many others.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born and raised in Southern California, Alisha (Lish) has always appreciated the region\u2019s rich history and culture and currently resides in the Inland Empire. She earned a BA in Communications with a focus on Radio, TV, and Film from California State University. After several years in marketing, she began pursuing an MLIS at San Jose State University in Fall 2024. Passionate about preserving and exploring the unique and historic, she aims to work in special collections or archives within museums, historical societies, or heritage organizations. In her free time, she enjoys visiting museums, exploring botanical gardens and nature, uncovering obscure history on YouTube, traveling, and reading historical fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Social Media Director: Megan Mccabe<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Megan started the MLIS program in Fall 2023 part-time. She has yet to choose a pathway, but is open and curious about learning about the many different ways information and library sciences can be applied to various work environments. She graduated from Santa Clara University in 2007 with a BS in Political Science and a minor in Studio Art. After several years working as a paralegal she is now busy raising two children with her husband and cat in San Jose, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Assistant Social Media Director: Tori Puente<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Tori began her MLIS program in Spring 2025, with a dual focus on Archives and Digital Curation. Previously, she received her BA in Studio Art, with a concentration in photography, from CSU Long Beach. Since then, she has interned in digital media for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, held a variety of positions related to web services and virtual organization, and currently works in the administration office of the UCLA Library. She’s looking forward to completing her education in Spring 2027 and, hopefully, finding a digital archivist position at an archive or special library. When not working or studying, she enjoys photography, painting, traveling, museums, reading, and spending time with her pets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blog Director: Lan An<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Lan An (she\/her) started her MLIS journey in Fall 2025. She graduated magna cum laude in English from Cornell University and received her MA in English from NYU. She completed her PhD coursework in English at UC Santa Barbara before she made the career shift and embarked on her MLIS journey in August 2025. Lan has a strong interest in early modern women’s writings, digital humanities, and legal humanities. She has experience working with early modern archives and has organized and participated in several volunteer activities focused on science education and art programming for underprivileged children. She hopes to explore career options in special collections, literary archives, academic, and law libraries. In her free time, Lan enjoys travelling, visiting independent bookshops, and doing pilates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Claire began San Jos\u00e9 State University’s MLIS program in the spring of 2024. She tries to be a lifelong learner of many subjects and appreciates how special libraries offer such in-depth knowledge of specific topics. Following the program’s Web Programming and Information Architecture pathway, she also values how libraries make learning resources more widely accessible and has the professional goal making resources more accessible through intuitive technologies. Her interests include library systems and metadata, user experience, and programming in addition to special libraries. In the past, she completed two semesters as an intern on the School of Information’s UX and Usability Team. In addition to her role in SLASC, Claire acts as the President with the User Experience Student Group at SJSU. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, crafts, listening to music, and playing the tin whistle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brendan resides in San Jose, California, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of California, Riverside. Throughout his education and one gap year, he had the opportunity to write as an arts and entertainment editor, tutor with a program uplifting disadvantaged students, and teach English as a foreign language in Thailand. He is interested in academic librarianship and pursuing more supplemental master’s programs or a doctorate. When he\u2019s not busy studying, Brendan loves to play role-playing games on Steam, read Japanese graphic novels, catch up on whatever is the current hottest animated show\/movie, and do combat sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty Advisor:<\/strong> Dr. Norman Mooradian<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Norman Mooradian has had a multifaceted career working as an information professional and as an academic focusing on digital ethics. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Philosophy from the Ohio State University. He also completed graduate courses in Legal Studies at the University of Illinois and attained the CIPP\/US Information Privacy Professional Certification from the IAPP. Dr. Mooradian has published articles in areas such as information ethics, business ethics, information privacy, enterprise content management (ecm), knowledge management, and virtual reality, and he is the author of Ethics for Records and Information Management<\/em> (2018, ALA). His research and teaching interests connect concepts from applied ethics, epistemology and ontology to the information sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
