Anyone is invited to participate and make a difference in the content of this heavily-used (over 400 million unique visitors each month) information resource. As of July 2014 there were nearly 33 million articles on the Wikipedia platform, with 15,000 new articles added every day and 27 million links redirecting users to additional resources. That\u2019s a lot of potential information to edit and enhance\u2026and there\u2019s always new LIS topics and recent developments to add, too!<\/p>\n<p>Participation is a great way to learn more about the (not-too-techy) technical side of Wikipedia, improve the platform as a data source, and improve the visibility of librarians who are engaged with Wikipedia and other information resources of interest to\/used by the global community.<\/p>\n<p>The Edit-a-Thon will be held virtually and asynchronously. Vernon, Iowa, for four years. Michelle was a recipient of the WISE Excellence in Online Teaching Award in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 and she was was awarded the iSchool Outstanding Teacher Award in 2011. Michelle is the co-chair of the iSchool Curriculum and Program Development Committee with Dr. Linda Main. Michelle lives in Monmouth, Illinois, with her husband Bob, who teaches in the Department of Classics at Monmouth College, and their four sons, Ben, David, Marc, and Alex.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/asistsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Hansen-image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2928\" src=\"http:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/asistsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Hansen-image.png\" alt=\"Hansen image\" width=\"188\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>An iSchool faculty member since 1989,\u00a0Dr. Debra Hansen\u00a0currently teaches in the areas of archives, oral history, history of books and libraries, and information and society. She earned an MLIS from UCLA in 1983 and her doctorate in 1988 from the University of California, Irvine, where she specialized in 19th century American social and women\u2019s history. Dr. Hansen\u2019s research lies at the intersection of history and library science, focusing on the professionalization and feminization of librarianship in the West. He is also CEO of the Federation of Ontario Public Libraries.He is a library trend watcher, keynote speaker, innovator and author of\u00a0<i>Stephen\u2019s Lighthouse<\/i>\u00a0blog. He has held executive leadership positions at Cengage Learning (Gale), SirsiDynix, Thomson, ProQuest and IHS.
