This month’s Archive of the Month is the Theatre on Film & Tape Archive<\/a> housed within the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In an effort to preserve the magic of live theater, this one of a kind archive is housed at Lincoln Center, one of New York City\u2019s cultural cornerstones. Since 1970, the archive has maintained an extensive collection of audio and video recordings. Including over 5,000 plays, musicals, experimental productions, and more, in addition to 3,000 interviews, discussions, film and television adaptations, and other theater-related content. While active shows are not available for viewing within the archive, recent additions include Funny Girl and Camelot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the current digital age this archive still invites patrons to an in-person viewing experience to preserve the legacy of live theater.\u00a0 This archive is open to all patrons of the New York Public Library by appointment or walk-in.
