Following the tradition of our 2021\/22 SAASC Executive Board, we were thrilled to facilitate another Fall Scavenger Hunt this year, where participants worked together in teams to dig for archival treasures across digital collections. Over the course of five weekly challenges, our Scavenger Hunt teams uncovered some pretty fascinating finds that we\u2019d like to share!<\/p>\n

Team Curious Curatorials<\/strong> used ArchiveGrid<\/a> to locate a Catholic Church missal from 1450 \u2014 it\u2019s the oldest item in California State University Long Beach\u2019s Library, and it\u2019s held in their Special Collections<\/a>. They also found an incredible engraving of a William Blake poem in the CalTech Archives<\/a>, of all places!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Team Cataloging Queens<\/strong>, aside from coming up with an incredible team name, added 13 sites to SAASC\u2019s Collection of Interesting Archives<\/a>! Poetry came up again in their findings of the University at Buffalo\u2019s Poetry Collection<\/a>, which holds one of the world\u2019s largest collections of poetry first editions and other titles.<\/p>\n

Team Raiders of the Lost Archives<\/strong>, in our spooky, occult-themed Halloween challenge, used the Getty Research Portal\u2019s Alchemy Collection<\/a> to contemplate the mysteries in this scene<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The One-ders Team<\/strong> shared an international archive that they\u2019re adding to their collective archival bucket list: the Museo Ixchel in Guatemala<\/a>, which offers an extensive collection of Guatemalan indigenous dress and textiles.<\/p>\n

Team West Coast Chroniclers<\/strong> explored our own San Jose State University Special Collections<\/a> to find this beautiful photograph from the Gerald L. French Photographic Collection<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

They also took us back in time to the 1967 Vietnam War Protests at SJSU<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Finally, Team History Hunters<\/strong> came across a perplexing discrepancy while scouring the records in the Indigenous Digital Archives Treaties Explorer<\/a>. You might notice the use of what looks to be an \u201cf\u201d in place of an \u201cs\u201d in the print<\/a>. This is no accident, but instead, an example of \u201clong s,\u201d which you can read more on here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
