And to the new incoming students, congratulations on starting your journey at SJSU! Every semester, we\u2013the Society of American Archivists Student Chapter\u2013host our very own Meet and Greet with students to introduce our program to faces familiar and new. Over the break, we have planned a packed, fun-filled spring semester full of exciting guest speaker events and even a transcription competition, and we are looking forward to showcasing everything with the iSchool community. Here are some of the most important recaps from our February 8 event:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><b>Transcription Competition<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Are you interested in archives and would like to improve your archival skills? How about transcription? This is now your chance to develop <\/span><b>hands-on transcription experience<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"> by participating in our Transcription Competition.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">There will be a kick-off Zoom meeting on <\/span><b>March 1, 2022 at 6:30 PST<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">. Zoom registration was recently sent out.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">Students will be placed in teams to transcribe records from the National Archives Records Administration (NARA).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">Taking part is highly recommended. Not only will you learn transcription, you can network with your teammates and fellow students!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">To participate, you <\/span><b>MUST be a SAASC member (which can be performed on Canvas). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Follow the instructions below<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Log into Canvas &gt; select <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">courses<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"> &gt; iSchool Advising and Administration &gt; select <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">people<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"> &gt; join SAASC &gt; Voila! His webinar will include a glimpse into the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcollections.sjsu.edu\/civil-rights-campus-protest?solr_nav%5Bid%5D=b587ef71ccc13a424c61&amp;solr_nav%5Bpage%5D=0&amp;solr_nav%5Boffset%5D=3\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0055a2;\"><b>Civil Rights and Campus Protest Collection<\/b><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">, and an \u201cAsk a Director of Special Collections &amp; Archives\u201d Q &amp; A. You must register through Zoom prior to attending the event.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><b>Elections<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The time is here once again for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/saasc\/board-nominations-2022-2023\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0055a2;\"><b>SAASC Election<\/b><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"> to nominate candidates to the executive committee board for the 2022-2023 school year!
