{"id":6055,"date":"2014-07-20T19:21:24","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T02:21:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/slisgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-descriptor\/?p=1217"},"modified":"2014-07-20T19:21:24","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T02:21:24","slug":"cover-art-for-invisible-a-perte-de-vue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-students\/cover-art-for-invisible-a-perte-de-vue\/","title":{"rendered":"Cover Art for Invisible: \u00c0 Perte de Vue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cover Art for Invisible: \u00c0 Perte de Vue<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> by Claire Hand<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, I created the cover art for and edited my husband\u2019s contemporary spy novel, <i>Invisible: \u00c0 Perte de Vue.\u00a0 <\/i>The book is available in the <a href=\"http:\/\/webpac.library.unlv.edu\/search~S5\/X\">UNLV Wiener-Rogers Law Library&#8217;s popular collection<\/a>, and an excerpt can be viewed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harvard.com\/book\/invisible_a_perte_de_vue\">Harvard.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/slisgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-descriptor\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Invisible_A_Perte_de_Vue_frontcover_design_Claire_Hand.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1219\" alt=\"Invisible_A_Perte_de_Vue_frontcover_design_Claire_Hand\" src=\"https:\/\/slisgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-descriptor\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Invisible_A_Perte_de_Vue_frontcover_design_Claire_Hand.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My inspiration for the cover art was to depict a scene in the novel where the hero reflects on a major event in the story.\u00a0 Because I knew the story, I wanted to bring it to life visually through photography.\u00a0 After thinking about possible images, this one with Libertaire gazing out the window not only mirrored the scene well but also captures a quality of the character. \u00a0(Of course, you will have to read the book to understand my meaning.)\u00a0 The author, \u00a0P. W. Hand, is portraying Libertaire in the front cover and is shown on the back cover.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/slisgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-descriptor\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Invisible_A_Perte_de_Vue_backcover_design_Claire_Hand.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1220\" alt=\"Invisible_A_Perte_de_Vue_backcover_design_Claire_Hand\" src=\"https:\/\/slisgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-descriptor\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Invisible_A_Perte_de_Vue_backcover_design_Claire_Hand.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I must say that working on this project with my husband was a labor of love.\u00a0 I found it easy to put my all into the project because I wanted it to be a success; I also learned that brainstorming, feedback, patience, and compromise are just as important when working with family as when working for an employer.\u00a0 In a nutshell, understanding the author\u2019s vision and planning realistic project goals are keys to successful collaborative work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/slisgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-descriptor\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Claire-pic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1218\" alt=\"Claire - pic\" src=\"https:\/\/slisgroups.sjsu.edu\/alasc\/wp-descriptor\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Claire-pic.jpg\" width=\"147\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Claire L. Hand is an MLIS student at San Jose State University and plans to graduate in December 2014.\u00a0 Her career interests are academic and instructional librarianship and cataloging.\u00a0 She is originally from Pennsylvania, but she lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for some years, and now lives in Henderson, Nevada.\u00a0 She has been managing the interlibrary loan service at the Wiener-Rogers Law Library since 2005.\u00a0 When she is not working or studying, she plays golf, plays the piano, crochets, watches old movies and baseball games, bakes artisan bread, researches her family genealogy with her sister, and hangs out with her husband and two French mastiffs.\u00a0 In 2012, she received the AALL George A. Strait Minority Scholarship and the LexisNexis \/John R.
