\"Kerstin<\/a>Welcome to the Spring issue of ALASC\u2019s newsletter, the SLIS Descriptor<\/em>!<\/p>\n

Before giving a quick rundown of this issue, I want to express my gratitude to those of you who re-elected me to serve on our ALASC as Newsletter Editor for the 2014-2015 school year. Thank you! I look forward to making my last year of ALASC participation as much of a rewarding experience for the SLIS community as I hope it will be for me.<\/p>\n

In this issue, you will get to read about a school librarian\u2019s social equity\/inclusion analysis of her stacks; the rewards and challenges of online leadership, along with key strategies to help yourself be an effective leader online; how one of our peers successfully planned and executed a low-budget, youth-centered summer program for one of her community\u2019s public libraries; a virtual internship experience in social media for public librarianship; and an on-site \u201cboot camp\u201d in archival studies.<\/p>\n

If you have not yet submitted a piece for publication in the SLIS Descriptor<\/em>, then I encourage you to do so. We seek to publish internship and fellowship recaps, book reviews, job experiences, comics, event attendee summaries, poetry, photographs, and any other LIS content that you feel is worth sharing with and beyond our SLIS community. If you have an idea, please contact us at alasc.descriptor@yahoo.com<\/a>. Who knows? If you keep following ALASC on Facebook<\/a> or Twitter<\/a> for updates and upcoming events, you might stumble upon a topic to develop into an article for us.<\/p>\n

We hope that this Spring semester has brought you many challenging opportunities and projects. We appreciate you taking a break from your studies to read our newsletter, and we look forward to sharing more of your writing in the next issue of the SLIS Descriptor<\/em>.
