Spiva<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After being away from an official learning environment for over a decade, I\u2019ve gone back to school! \u00a0Depending on whose classification you use, I\u2019m either part of Generation X or Generation Y. \u00a0Either way, I\u2019m taking notes like the cool kids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I graduated from San Jos\u00e9 State University (SJSU) in 2002 with a degree in marketing. \u00a0After managing digital content for over a decade, I\u2019ve returned to my alma mater to earn my master\u2019s degree in library and information science (MLIS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Guess what? \u00a0Black and white textbooks still put me to sleep. \u00a0Fortunately, SJSU\u2019s School of Library &amp; Information Science (SLIS) offers most lessons and learning resources using a variety of digital distribution channels, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Desire2Learn (D2L)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Blackboard Collaborate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">WordPress<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not only has my school evolved in the past decade, but so have I as a student. \u00a0I\u2019ve been in the fast-paced corporate world of high-tech, where I\u2019ve learned to abandon what doesn\u2019t work in order to find something that does.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When I attend face-to-face meetings, I take notes using a pen and paper. \u00a0In a traditional classroom, I would probably do the same. \u00a0I still think it\u2019s more polite to look the speaker in the eye while you discreetly write something down, rather than keeping your eyes on a screen whether or not you are listening. \u00a0However, since my grad school program is 100% online, I am taking notes digitally. \u00a0My favorite notetaking tool so far is Pinterest. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I\u2019ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/silviakspiva\/sjsu-slis\/\">built a Pinterest board for my SJSU SLIS studies<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As you can see, I am adding photos, quotes, and links there. \u00a0I tend to focus on lessons on which I may be tested, but I also keep it fun with other library school images. \u00a0Pinterest is public, so my notes are there for all to see.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What do you think of this note taking method?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How can Pinterest help you succeed in your next project?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A\u00a0multilingual marketer, Silvia Spiva has built global collaboration teams at Sybase, Apple, and Cisco. \u00a0She is a science technology engineering arts and math (STEAM) mentor. \u00a0She is also an eager student at San Jose State University&#8217;s School of Library &amp; Information Science, where she is imagining the future of digital libraries.
