<\/a>This fall, the San Diego Area Law Libraries Association will be launching \u201cSANDALL Buddies,” a new mentoring program that pairs up professional law librarians with library students, new librarians and other types of librarians who are interested in the field of law librarianship. <\/p>\n

The pairs can choose to perform a variety of activities together, such as attending events, working on projects such as newsletter articles and planning a SANDALL event to help mentees get more familiar with the organization. The Buddies Program is designed to be flexible to allow pairs to set their own goals and expectations and establish their own meeting schedules and contact preferences. There will also be occasional social events where the pairs can meet other participants and share ideas.<\/p>\n

<\/a>As a Mentee you will:<\/b>
\u2022 Learn what it\u2019s like to be a law librarian first hand
\u2022 Job Shadow your Mentor or tour their workplace
\u2022 Have your resume reviewed by a professional
\u2022 Have someone you can turn to for questions and support
\u2022 Attend conferences, workshops, and social events with your mentor
\u2022 Get more involved with SANDALL (a chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries) to build your network and resume<\/p>\n

Allison Coltin is the Serials\/Processing Assistant at the University of San Diego Legal Research Center. She received her B.A. in English from California Lutheran University and Masters of Library and information Science from San Jose State University. Allison is currently the Vice President of the SJSU SLIS Alumni Association and is really looking forward to helping students and newer librarian connect to experienced law librarians through the SANDALL Buddies Program.<\/p>\n

Grace Chilingirian is a Reference Librarian at the San Diego office of Latham & Watkins LLP. She received her B.A. in Political Science and Paralegal Certificate from the University of California, San Diego and Masters of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. Grace is currently the Alignment Ambassador for the San Diego Chapter of SLA and involved in SANDALL\u2019s social media committee. Like Allison, she is very excited about heading the new SANDALL Buddies Program to assist aspiring law librarians achieve their goals.<\/p>\n
