Conable Conference Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is the Conable Conference Scholarship?<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>The Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) offers an annual scholarship for library school students and new professionals to attend\u00a0ALA&#8217;s Annual Conference. The goal of the Gordon M. Conable Conference Scholarship is to advance two principles that Gordon held dear: intellectual freedom and mentoring.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>The Conable Scholarship provides for conference registration, transportation, housing for six nights, and a $300 stipend for meals and other expenses. The recipient also will receive a one-year membership in the Freedom to Read Foundation. \u00a0In return, the recipient will be expected to attend various FTRF and other intellectual freedom meetings and programs at conference, consult with a mentor\/board member, and present a report about their experiences and thoughts.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<h2>Who Is Eligible?<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/h2>\n<p>Students currently enrolled in an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/accreditedprograms\/directory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.ala.org\/accreditedprograms\/directory&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1490307383015000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEullGteP_S7xymW0pHMZZHRNCu5Q\"><strong>ALA-accredited library and information studies degree program<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0or an\u00a0<strong>AASL-recognized master\u2019s programs in school librarianship<\/strong>\u00a0and new professionals (those who are three or fewer years removed from receiving an LIS degree) are eligible to receive the Conable Scholarship.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Note: If the recipient is already registered for ALA\u2019s Annual Conference, he or she will have their conference fee refunded.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>The conference scholarship winner will be expected to arrive on <b>Wednesday <\/b>and stay through <b><span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_997357680\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Monday<\/span><\/span> afternoon.<\/b><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0How to Apply<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/shrte36eB0pJ27DXZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/airtable.com\/shrte36eB0pJ27DXZ&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1490307383015000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHwoVO118ZCit5hJWSs7F99n-DQng\">The application requires a resume, two references, and an essay of up to 500 words describing your interest in intellectual freedom issues<\/a> and how you will use your attendance at an ALA conference to further your interest in intellectual freedom during and after the conference. \u00a0Your resume should include your education, work history, and volunteer experience.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application deadline: <\/strong>April 21, 2017.\u00a0 Winners will be announced in early May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the Conable Conference Scholarship?
