Learn about our new SJSU Library Advocacy Group logo

Published by iSchool Admin on

Our new logo was designed by our social media and marketing coordinator Wun Wong.

Thank you Wun!

“Our logo was created keeping in mind the missions of library advocacy and the forms of information that information professionals and librarians engage in. As stated in our Bylaws, part of our purpose is to “safeguard intellectual freedom and protect the right to seek, receive, and impart information” as well as “to promote and support equitable access to information in a democratic society.”

A central tenet of our values lies in information justice and equity, represented by the scales of justice laid atop a book. However, we as MLIS students understand that information is sought, received, and imparted in multiple formats in our digital world, which we emphasized with the icons of a laptop and a smartphone.

We believe that in advocating for libraries, it is essential to highlight that we offer more than books, and we seek to reach audiences to support libraries with more than traditional print. This logo aims to communicate our values in bringing awareness to all that libraries have to offer that can transform the communities we serve, and that we stand for equity and justice. We aim to show the value of libraries beyond books, and we as advocates will stand up for our communities on all fronts beyond the bookshelves.”
