Officers Experience

The AANHPI iSchool student group is run by an executive committee of officers who meet monthly to plan for events and activities for the organization. Officers work together as a team and build leadership experience that may satisfy many competency requirements of their iSchool degree programs, such as follows:

MLIS Competencies

C. Articulate the importance of designing programs and services supportive of diversity, inclusion, and equity for clientele and employees

D. Apply the fundamental principles of planning, management, marketing, and advocacy;

E. Design, query, and evaluate information retrieval systems

H. Demonstrate proficiency in identifying, using, and evaluating current and emerging information and communication technologies

M. Demonstrate professional leadership and communication skills

O. (For students entering from Spring 2015 onwards) Understand global perspectives on effective information practices that are supportive of cultural, economic, educational, or social well-being.

MARA Competencies

B.    Explain the social, cultural, and economic dimensions of data, records, and information use

D.    Apply basic concepts and principles to identify, evaluate, select, organize, maintain, and provide access to physical and digital information assets

J.   Describe global perspectives on effective information practices that are supportive of cultural, economic or social well-being. 

MS Informatics Competencies

A. Apply technology informatics skills to solve specific industry data and information management problems, with a focus on usability and designing for users

D. Identify user needs, ideate informatics products and services, prototype new concepts, and evaluate a prototype’s usability

E. Work collaboratively in teams and use project management practices effectively to solve user-centric information and data problems
