In collaboration with AANHPI iSchool Student Group member\, Moni Keary (she/her)\, we will be engaging in a fruitful group discussion about the written piece: The “Four Prisons” and the Movements of Liberation: Asian American Activism from the 1960s to the 1990s by Glenn Omatsu (2010)\, found in chapter 16 of the book Asian American Studies Now: A Critical Reader edited by Jean Yu-wen\, Shen Wu\, Thomas C. Chen. Ms. Cruz will be speaking with us about Filipino American representation in children’s literature and her journey as a writer. Everlasting Nora has earned the Excellence in a Work of Juvenile Fiction Award from the Children’s Literature Council of Southern California\, and recognition from the Junior Library Guild\, School Library Journal\, and Book Expo America. It was part of National Geographic’s 2020 Summer Learning Series. Ms. Cruz’s newest book will be released in Fall 2026.
