Academic Librarian Ray Pun and SJSU alumnus Neil Ordinario will join us to chat about their career journey and discuss current trends and issues in the field.

Ray Pun (he/him) is an academic and research librarian at the Alder Graduate School of Education, a teacher’s residency program in California. Pun served as the President of the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) and the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA). For over 17 years, Pun has worked at various institutions such as The New York Public Library, New York University Shanghai, Fresno State, and Stanford University as a library worker. Pun is also a San José State University’s Center for Information Research and Innovation (CIRI) advisory board member.

Neil Poʻokela Ordinario (he/him) is a diasporic Kanaka ʻŌiwi, Ilokano, and haole settler on the lands of the Muwekma Ohlone people in the San Francisco Bay Area. No nā alahele na Kaʻahupāhau. No nā mamo o Kalihi. He is from the trails of Kaʻahupāhau (Puʻuloa). He is from the descendants of Kalihi Valley. He is the grandchild of sugar plantation plantation laborers. He received a Master of Library and Information Science from the San José State University iSchool focusing on library technology within collection development and diversity, equity & inclusion.  He has been a proud Library Staff member for over 20 years and currently is the Library Technology Coordinator at SJSU’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library and is a contributing member of the SJSU Campus Community for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. He is a voice for Kānaka rights, especially on and for the diaspora.

The Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) iSchool Student Group is focused on bringing awareness to the needs of AANHPI students and staff in information professions, engaging the student body in recognition and support for AANHPI students and communities, and promoting connection and cultural understanding.
