About Dr. Suellen Adams:<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Dr. Suellen Adams is a current faculty member at SLIS and of ASIS&T.\u00a0 She currently works as an independent researcher and adjunct professor and is an experienced teacher, having taught a broad range of courses, both in LIS education and in undergraduate general studies.\u00a0 Her research specialty is information behavior and meaning-making, particularly in the context of popular culture, recreation and play.<\/p>\n

\u00a0About the Topic:<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Her talk will be about her recent and continuing research on adult recreational athletes and how they find out what they need to know to succeed.\u00a0 The talk will include her methodology for collecting and analyzing the data for her research, as well as a scheme she developed to categorize the information environment for serious recreational athletes.\u00a0 Dr. Adams has provided the following snippet from an abstract about her work:<\/p>\n

The information environment of serious recreational athletes exists on three levels. These levels are the written, the human community and the self.\u00a0 On each level there are two layers of information sources, one formal and one informal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
