McLaughlin, Chair, SJSU ASIS&amp;T<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is official: spring i<a href=\"http:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/asistsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/HUGaSIG-Lightbulb.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3421\" src=\"http:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/asistsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/HUGaSIG-Lightbulb.png\" alt=\"HUGaSIG-Lightbulb\" width=\"167\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a>s in the air! While Valentine\u2019s Day is already far behind us, we here at SJSU ASIS&amp;T are spreading the information science love and we want you to reach out and HUG-a-SIG this April.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>as part of your ASIS&amp;T membership you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asis.org\/SIG\/sigs.html\">join any of the 21 ASIS&amp;T Special Interest Groups<\/a> (SIGs)??<\/li>\n<li>SIGs offer a specialized focus on key interest areas in information sciences??<\/li>\n<li>these SIGs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asis.org\/volunteer-sigs.html\">need student volunteers<\/a> and engagement, and present a great opportunity to get involved??<\/li>\n<li>many times, SIGs offer exclusive events, guest speakers, and help to promote other opportunities including student research awards??<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During our Membership Drive and social events throughout the month of April, we encourage our new and existing Chapter Members to get involved with an ASIS&amp;T SIG. Every ASIS&amp;T Member can choose any SIG with their membership &#8211; or multiple!<\/p>\n<p>To see what SIGs do, how they engage with members, and the value they bring to ASIS&amp;T, please check out the recent \u2013 fantastic \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asis.org\/SocialMedia\/?p=358\">interview with SIG AH<\/a> (\u263a) or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asis.org\/SocialMedia\/?p=283\">this interview with SIG DL<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a new Member or are <a href=\"http:\/\/ischoolgroups.sjsu.edu\/asistsc\/how-to-join\/\">considering joining ASIS&amp;T<\/a>, we encourage you to sign up for a SIG when you receive your new Member information and ASIS&amp;T login credentials.<\/p>\n<p>For existing Members, please <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asis.org\/membersonly.html\">follow the instructions<\/a> on the ASIS&amp;T website for logging in to access your Member Profile (where you can add\/modify your SIG selection):<\/p>\n<p><b>To log in, go to <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asis.org\/index.html\"><b>www.asis.org<\/b><\/a><b> and enter your User Name and password.\u00a0 You will be thanked for logging in. Click on OK and you will go to a membership page where you can update your Membership Profile\u00a0<\/b><b> (in the left hand column).\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Your User Name is the first initial of your first name and your last name, in lower case.\u00a0 Your password is your 6 digit ASIS&amp;T member number.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Example for Jane Doe:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>User Name:\u00a0 jdoe<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b>Password:\u00a0 123456<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>If you don&#8217;t know your member number or your login isn&#8217;t working, please <\/b><a href=\"mailto:membership@asis.org\"><b>contact ASIS&amp;T<\/b><\/a><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you are already a SIG member, make sure you are following them on social media and have <a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/forms\/kIqwcZBBfl\">signed up for their listserv<\/a>. Perhaps they have an event coming up? Maybe they are planning a panel or student research competition for the Annual Conference in St. Louis? I can almost guarantee that you will find an opportunity to exchange ideas, to stay informed, and to get involved with a smaller organization within the larger international ASIS&amp;T association.<\/p>\n<p>So go ahead\u2026.reach out and HUG-a-SIG of your choice in April and take full advantage of your ASIS&amp;T membership.
